Apprenticeship Programme
The Vital Hairdressing Apprenticeship is open to everyone aged 16 and over who wishes to begin their journey into a rewarding and fulfilling career in hairdressing.
What Does An Apprenticeship Involve?
The apprentice programme involves working at Vital Salon in Taunton, including at least 1 day per week learning hairdressing on live models. In addition, covering both theory and practical course exams.
What Qualification Will I Receive At The End?
A NVQ Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals.
How Long Does It Take To Qualify?
The whole apprenticeship will take up to 2 years. This is usually made up of 18-21 months learning on the course programme, and then 3 months preparing for your “External End Point Assessment”, which is a test that takes place at the end.
What Experience Or Qualifications Do I Need?
No hairdressing experience is necessary, as the apprenticeship starts at the beginning, teaching the basic skills of hairdressing or barbering. To be accepted straight onto the programme, you need a GCSE in both English and Maths, either grade D / 3 and above, some work experience and some confidence.
What Are My Career Prospects Afterwards?
Once you have gained your Level 2 Diploma qualification, you are technically qualified to work as a hairdresser in any salon. At Vital, we offer the best and most skilled apprentices the chance to continue their journey with us on the 12 month Vital Graduate Programme, which then prepares you to be a stylist in Vital. For us, this is not just a job, this is a career; we have many very successful Stylists, Colourists, who started within our apprenticeship programme and went on to be finalists in the British hairdressing business awards.

FAQ's
Can I choose what kind of haircut or colour I have?
Yes of course - the academy services are very similar to a normal salon appointment, whereby you will have a full consultation at the start to explain to your stylist or colourist the style or colour you would like.
If you are modelling for a seminar, you will be required to undergo quite a big change, or have something ‘creative’ done - if this is not what you’re after, book for the Vital Academy instead
Can I choose who does my hair?
Yes, usually, as long as your chosen student is fully capable of doing the cut or colour you wish. Just state your preference when booking and we will do our best to accommodate.
Do you have opportunities for modelling work?
Yes, When Nick needs a model for internal training for a ‘creative cut/colour’ and you have the required look you can book these dates. They are always in short supply and highly competitive.
