Independent company, Vital Salon on Corporation Street in Taunton, has been recognised as a stellar example of new British business after securing a finalist place in HJ’s British Hairdressing Business Awards 2019.

The Independent Salon Business - Newcomer of the Year award, sponsored by Salon International, recognises the top six British hairdressing entrepreneurs who have made their business dream a reality and launched a successful salon. The category is open to owners of newly established independent salons which are less than two years old.

Nick Martin who runs Vital Salon impressed a host of industry judges with his business plan, and how aims and objectives translated into evidenced success after the company’s inception.

Commenting on the announcement, Jayne Lewis-Orr, executive director of HJ’s British Hairdressing Business Awards said; “To be named as a finalist in the Independent Salon - Business Newcomer of the Year category confirms just how exceptional the mind behind Vital Salon is. Nick has crafted an amazing business from scratch. That truly is a mark of incredible entrepreneurial flair. To build a soaring company out of nothing speaks of passion and unrelenting commitment and it’s no wonder that he attracted so much attention with his entry because it was full of individuality founded on brilliant business structure and marketing ideas.

“It’s always a pleasure to see stylists making brave decisions to open their own salons. Launching a business and hiring a team is no doubt a big decision, but we are so grateful for these courageous risk-takers who make our high streets more vibrant and diverse. We wish him the best of luck.”

On hearing of their success, owner Nick Martin of Vital says: “Opening a salon has been the most challenging thing I’ve ever done, stretching me in all kinds of ways. It’s been an incredible journey of seeing what I’m capable of creatively and practically, and I’ve grown so much as a leader. I’m delighted to be recognised – starting a business is hard but it’s been the most exciting and rewarding process!”

Salon International, Britain’s biggest professional hairdressing industry trade show sponsors the Independent Salon Business – Business Newcomer of the Year category. Jayne Lewis-Orr adds: “Receiving a finalist place is a phenomenal feat. There are so many aspects to planning and starting a new salon. I take my hat off to people like Nick who don’t let the fear of the unknown hold them back from following their dream. Many people wait until they know all the details and feel like they’re an expert in all things commercial, but they’ve realised that you learn as you go along and have dived straight in and are making beautiful ripples.”

HJ’s British Hairdressing Business Awards, now in its 21st year, promote professionalism, innovation and excellence, while recognising those individuals and teams who work tirelessly to raise the profile of the hairdressing industry and make it vibrant and growing.
