It’s no secret that we need to do our part in the reduction of plastic, especially one use plastic. Recycling is apart of all our domestic lives but I’m sure I’m not alone in the frustration of manufacturers using one use plastic to cover a container that is already made from a sturdy material, But we are where we are. Since My initial conception of Vital Taunton nearly 2 years ago one of my personal and now professional values was for us to be as sustainable as possible without intruding on our commitment to using the best technology for our stylist and guests.
This was one of my key narratives that I used in our entry for the British hairdressing business awards that helped us secure a finalist position in the ‘independent salon - business newcomer’ category. Showing that you don’t have to go or be a city salon to be progressive and at the forefront. With the final coming up on the 9th September at London’s park plaza Westminster hotel.
As a business this can come at a greater cost than one may think. When designing Vital this principle of suitable beauty was at the forefront of my mind and of the designer. By using the latest LED lighting with a bespoke lighting layout and using a green energy supplier along with a Clever water purification system that reduces our water consumption by 40% whilst removing minerals and impurities found in tap water allowing us to wash our guests hair with the purist water leaving hair softer, shinier and contamination free. Carolyn our front of house host is a dedicated recycler by setting up what can only be described as her own recycling center in the team room (or was) collecting and sorting what we can reuse in salon or what needs to be sent off for recycling.
Our supplier Joico is a company that shares its values with Vital in being green, without compromising on product performance by substituting key ingredients/technology to follow the latest trend of being ‘Vegan’ That being said there incredibly passionate and strict policy of being completely Animal cruelty free shows that they are a company with a progressive vision.
